Andrew was born in London, UK, raised in Toronto, Canada, and cavorted in Ohtawara, Japan for three years. He is 47, married, has a son, a dog and a cat. He has over 30,000 comic books and a plethora of pioneer aviation-related tobacco cards and likes to build LEGO dioramas. Along with writing for a monthly industrial magazine, he also writes comic books and hates writing in the 3rd person. He also hates having to write this crap that no one will ever read. Along with the daily Japan - It's A Wonderful Rife blog, when he feels the hate, will also write another blog entitled: You Know What I Hate? He also wants to do more writing - for money, though.

Ohtawara-shi By Night

This is a photo I took from the rooftop of my seven-story building Zuiko Haitsu in Ohtawara-shi, Tochigi-ken, Japan.

This is exactly what the evening sky looked like - zero enhancements on my lousy photographer's part.

You can see a tiny waxing crescent Moon on the edge of the orange and purple sky... and at 11 O'clock from it... is Venus. That's why I climbed to the roof... a doorway to it was locked... so I climbed an outside bannister where the hallway was and hoisted myself up onto the roof.

If I thought about doing that now, I would think I was crazy.

To get down, I hung down with my fingertips and stretched my feet down, ensuring they were on the inside of the handrail before letting go. It was worth the scrape to my back and strained muscles in my hand.

Cheers
Andrew Joseph
