Dream A Little Dream Of Me

I awake from a very nice dream about Junko.

Let me tell you... in real life... in the wakey-wakey world... it's really quite the rush to have a secret girlfriend that nobody knows about. It's like I'm a super hero in my alter-ego. I'm Batman. And Junko is my Catwoman. Slinky. Sexy. Mysterious. She really likes me. And no one knows about it. I really like her. And no one knows about it.

It's a shame I have to leave the realm of the Prince of Dreams and get up, but today, Friday, November 8, 1991 is my 27th birthday here in Ohtawara-shi (City of Ohtawara), Tochigi-ken (Tochigi Prefecture), Japan.

I've lived her for 15 months, and my life has been one open book to the people of Japan. Kind of like what my life was like back home in Toronto, Canada. But... like my dear mother once told me... keep some secrets.

That was some great advice. I hope that when I wake up, I will still remember that.

Junko has been in my thoughts a lot lately, despite me not writing about it. But truthfully, she consumes me. Whenever I think about how crappy I feel here--especially lately--I have my secret fantasy world to escape to, and I am able to bring back a bit of sanity in the real world.

I'd love to tell her that... but after our last meeting... that was on the 'wow' scale of emotions... I haven't seen her. I dare not call her up, because like a cat, she is in charge of her own time... and I am quite content to be there for her when she needs me. Every prince needs to rescue his princess.

But where the hell is she?! Sometimes a prince needs rescuing, too. Ahhhh, screw it. Let me just think happy thoughts of us together--in secret--and I'll get through another day.

Still... I sit here alone in my bed... and realize I won't see her today. Happy un-birthday.

Somewhere looking at myself in the mirror,
Andrew Joseph
I'll continue with my birthday in another blog shortly.
Today's blog title is by The Mamas & The Papas. It's an old song, and there are many other great versions out there like one with Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. But this is the version I first heard as child... simply wow.

  1. pretty sure you need a new "secret girlfriend" label now :)
