New Godzilla Movie Coming In 2014

Good news for fans of the legendary King of the Monsters, Godzilla!

A new Godzilla movie slated for the summer of 2014 will be released! This movie was originally scheduled to come out in 2012 (according to noise from Legendary Pictures back in 2009), but the usual snafu's of choosing the write script and director have held it up.

It still might be held up. What Japan - It's A Wonderful Rife does know, however, is that a script writer has at the very least been chosen, Max Borenstein, who is writing the script based on an outline  from David S. Goyer, and that the studio is apparently developing the movie with IMAX 3D, implying the film will be in 3D!

First appearing in 1954, Toho's Godzilla is one of the most widely recognized monsters in the world. Along with over 25 movies, books, television programs, video games and several incarnations in the comic book universe (Dark Horse Comics and Marvel Comics), it still hasn't been seen in a movie in the U.S. since 1998 when Godzilla was redesigned to look like an iguana that laid eggs; or since 2004 in Japan during films released called the Millennium Series.

The year 2004 was the 50th anniversary of Godzilla, and remarkably Toho announced at that time that it was taking a 10-year break from making any more Godzilla films. In fact, Toho even went so far as to demolish its water stage that was used in so many Godzilla flicks.
Someone hand that lizard a towel! We can see his naughty bits!

Well... 2014 is 10-years later. While Toho will distribute the film in Japan, it will be a Warner Brothers co-release and co-financing deal for the rest of the world.

What is planned, and admittedly it is still in the embryonic stage, the new Godzilla flick will pay homage to the original character and series. You might ask, how does a movie do that? Well... for example... in the Captain America movie released last year... when Steve Rogers, the man who would soon become Captain America, was walking through the New York World's Fair, we see a sign showcasing the amazing android of Professor Phineas Horton. This is a comic book fans drool scene. That android was the original Human Torch, and was indeed built by Phineas Horton. Now that is a homage! Sorry... my inner nerd is showing.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what an homage to the original Godzilla movies might be. Perhaps a man in a rubber suit?

This movie will not necessarily be solely monster versus mankind. Godzilla will fight another monster or monsters. Hmmm... perhaps that is the homage? Doubt it though... from what I have heard, this Godzilla is a CGI creation that will take place in the 21st century and shot in color. So... no homage there.

I shall do my best to keep the hordes of humanity updated with news of the upcoming flick. No trailer yet, as there is still no finalized script and thus no filming.
Godzilla has the biggest pair of Nike's. Make a movie? Just do it!

You are of course, in the meantime, welcome to read some of the Godzilla haiku poetry I have created (always written in the voice of Godzilla) or perhaps you might enjoy the three-part interview I partook with Godzilla a couple of months back. Informative, charming and witty is he. Oh... and lets not forget petty, angry and radioactive.

Here's a BLOG I wrote about Godzilla's original Japanese movie that also includes a list of every Godzilla movie and television appearance.
